This is the story of a little lost dog and the awakening of one man's soul

"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." ~Anatole France, (1844-1924) poet, journalist, and novelist.

Miami blogger Carlos Miller is a self-described "rabble-rouser." If you're a frequent reader of Miami blogs, then you know what I'm talking about.

A week and a half ago, Carlos saw a scrawny stray dog darting in and out of traffic near his home at Coral Way and SW 32nd Ave.

He scooped up the pooch and brought it home. His girlfriend Rachel gave the little girl a bath and fed her.

The next day they took the dog - which they'd named "Ruby Tuesday" after the Rolling Stones song - to the vet to see if she had a micro-chip. No such luck.

Now they had a dog that was working its way into their hearts with each passing second.

Well, long story, short....another trip to the vet revealed that Ruby may have been living on the streets to the point where she'd developed some health issues.

Last night Rachel wrote on Facebook:
Today was a long day... 4 hours with Ruby Tuesday at the vet & $322 later...

Ruby will be on IV meds at home for the next two weeks & will be needing surgery in that time as well. She's a trooper & a survivor like us, so I think she'll be okay.

Rachel and Carlos have set up a Paypal account in an effort to raise some money to help pay for Ruby Tuesday's care.

Here's the link if you'd like to donate.

  1. It will be five years this September that our beloved Gigi passed.

Not a day goes by we don't think of her, even though today we have another dog, two cats and a hamster...

Great work, Carlos. You'll be blessed for this.
