Subject: WLRN Miami Herald News Director

Dear All:

Mr. Dan Grech is no longer with WLRN Miami Herald News, effective immediately. A national search will be conducted to identify a replacement.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,

According to the Miami Herald's website, Grech was "in charge of all aspects of the radio news operation and oversees a team of six radio reporters who are based in the Miami Herald newsroom."

The Herald and WLRN "work together through a partnership, but the news director works for South Florida Public Media, under the umbrella of WLRN," according to Herald managing editor Rick Hirsch.

In an October, 2010 article describing the Herald's partnership with WLRN, then Herald executive editor Anders Gyllenhaal wrote of Grech:
Dan Grech, who took over the news director role after years as a Herald reporter, then a correspondent for the national business show Marketplace, said the South Florida station works from a simple idea.

"We want to provide a sense of place," he said. "Place is more than geography. It's a sense of community, a sense of people, a sense of where we live. That's what we're trying to deliver."
