What does Miami taste like?

That's the question MiamiHerald.com news editor Jeff Kleinman asked when he posted a link on Facebook to a story about Absolut Vodka's limited edition drink debuting today in Wynwood.

The Herald story says the the liquor "blends [the flavors of] passion fruit and orange blossoms."

“We’re distilling the essence of Miami in a bottle,” said Maxime Kouchnir, Absolut’s vice president of marketing.

I'm not so sure that "passion fruit and orange blossoms" are the flavors I'd pick to capture the "essence of Miami."

So, I asked a few friends what they thought a Miami-flavored vodka might taste like.

Here are their answers:

Miami Herald photographer Tim Chapman: "Cuban coffee and hand-rolled Cuban cigars."

Craig Pittman, environmental writer, St. Petersburg Times: Pittman thinks that yesterday's Huffington Post Miami page captured the real "essence of Miami": "Botched plastic surgery, strippers in the federal lock-up and a toilet paper scam...now that's Miami!"

CBS4 anchor Eliott Rodriguez: "I don't know...how do you put the taste of an overpriced mojito served in an overpriced baseball stadium in a bottle?"

Miami Herald staff writer Elinor Brecher: "Hmmm, let me think a minute. Okay, how about carne asada made from a freshly-killed cow from an unlicensed, secret farm in Hialeah?"

Franciso Alvarado, Miami New Times staff writer: "The bodily fluid-stained floor of Bang Bus, old people musk, and Drakkar Noir cologne. "

Those are all great. But, I like to think a Miami-flavored vodka would taste simply fabulous...with just a hint of douche!
