Miami's own Katie Couric out at CBS News. Blames CBS4 for bad ratings!

UPDATE: In a NYT interview, Couric blames her dismal ratings on local stations. Hear that CBS4? It's your fault!

News item:

NEW YORK— Katie Couric is leaving her anchor post at "CBS Evening News" less than five years after becoming the first woman to solely helm a network TV evening newscast.

A network executive, who spoke on condition of anonymity because Couric has not officially announced her plans, reported the move to The Associated Press on Sunday night. The 54-year-old anchor is expected to launch a syndicated talk show in 2012 and several companies are vying for her services
.
Couric got her start in Miami years ago and then moved to the Today Show on NBC before assuming the main anchor position at CBS lees than 5 years ago.

Couric's departure follows that of another Miami TV graduate, Maggie Rodriguez, who was fired by CBS last December. A source tells me that Rodriguez has left the business and is now a full-time mommy.

Two months before Rodriguez got the axe, CNN fired Miami native Rick Sanchez. Oh, this so depressing....

Anyone else in Miami wanna try out for the big time?

Here's a Katie Couric flashback from a time when she was known as Katherine.

Just like Katherine, very different back then from what it is today.
