It's a Cuban thing

One of my favorite Versailles Restaurant moments occurred one night a few years ago as I had dessert and coffee with a friend at the bakery next door to the restaurant.

As we chatted, in wandered a sunburned tourist from Iowa or Nebraska, and in a too-loud voice, asked the woman behind the counter if they served de-caf.

So, some Cuban-Americans were understandably concerned last month when they learned that Cafe Bustelo, the company that makes their beloved Cuban coffee, had been sold to the Smucker's, an American company that's headquartered in Orrville, Ohio of all places.

WLRN's Kenny Malone put together a short history of Cafe Bustelo that aired last Tuesday on NPR's Morning Edition.
